The non-negotiables:
- A laptop with 16GB RAM, SSD, and a second monitor
- OBD2 diagnostic tool (not a €20 dongle — VCDS, HP Tuners, or J2534)
- Wideband lambda sensor and controller
- ECU reading/writing tool (PCMFlash or Kess)
What you don’t need at the start: A dyno, more than one read/write tool, an oscilloscope.
Total minimum viable setup: €2,500–4,500 depending on tool choices.
Safety ECU Read/Write walks through the full equipment chapter — how to evaluate tools for your specific market and execute your first safe read/write.
