Short answer: yes. It depends on what kind of work you want to do.
What you can start with instead:
- PCMFlash — excellent coverage of Bosch, Siemens, Delphi. Much lower entry cost.
- Kess3 — OBD-focused version of the Alientech ecosystem.
- KTag — bench/BDM tool, older but functional.
The honest trade-off:
Flex gives you the widest coverage in one tool. But if you’re starting on European Bosch ECUs, you can build a capable setup for significantly less.
What actually limits you at the start:
It’s not the tool. It’s knowing what to do with the file once you have it. A shop with Flex and no calibration knowledge earns nothing.
