In the beginning, my workflow was simple – I used to send files to external tuners for modification and then flash them into ECUs. The course content is interesting and gives a good introduction to looking at Renesas ECU firmware in Ghidra. It covers useful background topics like firmware structure, the Ghidra interface, Renesas architecture, assembly flow, registers, and basic data-flow tracking. I did learn more about what I am seeing inside the disassembler.
However, I feel the course description creates the impression that after completing this level, you will be able to do something practical and valuable with the firmware, such as understanding real algorithms well enough to start making meaningful changes. In reality, this level feels more like a building block or overview. The information is interesting, but on its own it does not really enable you to add new functions, modify ECU behaviour, or confidently complete a practical reverse-engineering task.
I think it should be made clearer that this first level is mainly foundational theory and orientation, not a complete solution. Anyone buying only this level should understand that they will probably still need the next steps before they can actually apply the knowledge to useful ECU modifications.
After completing the course, I learned which maps need to be adjusted at Stage 1, what their function is, exactly what they are for, factors and offsets. I learned how to search for maps without Damos, which is very useful. I recommend this course to anyone who would like to start tuning gasoline, but if they decide to go ahead, they should also buy the Gasoline Practical course along with the Gasoline Fundamental course.
The course is explained at a high level, everything is explained in detail, I have already completed the Diesel course before, so I decided to continue with the Gasoline course and I will continue with Ghidra, as I am very satisfied, I think it is difficult for a person to learn such information.

The fundamentals course is focused on exactly that, how to properly setup of Ghidra for analysis, how to navigate the screens and their usage, understanding firmware structure, key instructions/references, and an introduction to what may be possible once you start to reverse engineer the binary file.

I have never seen such a fast and effective way of achieving a stage 1 file in a diesel ECU. Thomas’s teaching style is really something else. Since I’ve been using the +21% method covered in the course, my work has picked up considerably on speed and become more profitable.

Before taking this course, I didn’t really understand how ECU calibration worked. Most of the time I was either copying maps from other files when possible or buying tuning files from third parties and loosing on my profits. While that worked most of the time, the real problem started when something didn’t work as expected and the customer came back with an issue. At that point, I often didn’t know exactly what had been changed or why, making it difficult to troubleshoot or improve the calibration. That could hurt customer satisfaction and my business because customers are much less likely to recommend you if you can’t confidently solve problems.
This course completely changed my understanding of diesel ECU calibration. Everything was explained through multiple Bosch ECU generations, including EDC16, EDC17, and MD1, which made it much easier to recognize the same logic across different vehicles and manufacturers. Instead of simply being told which maps to modify, every topic was explained in detail—why each map exists, how it affects the engine, how it interacts with other maps, and what happens when you change it.
I especially appreciated that the course doesn’t just teach you how to make more power. It explains how every change affects the engine and its components, what modifications are considered safe, what practices should be avoided, and which parameters can be adjusted while maintaining a reliable and healthy Stage 1 calibration. Rather than blindly increasing every map by 20% and hoping the engine survives, I now understand the reasoning behind every calibration change. I feel much more confident identifying maps, understanding the torque model, fuel calculations, boost control, VNT strategy, and creating my own reliable calibrations instead of relying on other people’s work. Overall, this course has given me a solid technical foundation that will improve both the quality of my tuning and the service I provide to my customers.
After completing this course, I realized how much valuable knowledge it contains that simply isn’t available anywhere else on the internet. It doesn’t just tell you which maps to change or by what percentage—it explains why those changes are made, the engineering behind them, and the reasoning for every calibration decision.
After finishing the course, I compared what I had learned with several Stage 1 files from other tuning providers. I noticed that many of them still modify SOI (Start of Injection), even though this course clearly explains why, in most cases, there is little or no benefit in doing so. The small horsepower gain simply isn’t worth the additional stress placed on the engine and its components over time. It became obvious that many tuners are following a formula instead of understanding the calibration itself.
This course completely changed the way I look at ECU tuning. Instead of blindly copying changes, I now understand the purpose behind them and can make informed decisions based on how the engine actually works. The amount of technical detail and practical explanations exceeded my expectations.

At first, I wasn’t sure whether to take this course I thought that after the Fundamentals course, I’d somhow manage to figre out functions on my own, but that turned out not to be
the case. After completing the course, I realized just how complex and yet so simple it is to implement a custom function you just have to know how.
Stanislav and Thomas really put a lot of effort into this course.
Even though I faced a bit of a language barrier with Stanislav (since I only speak German and a little bit Englisch, and the subtitles sometimes didn’t quite match up), I still managed to follow along very well. I’ll definitely be watching the videos a few more times I’m sure I’ll discover a trick or two that i missed. In my opinion, the course is a must have and worth every cent.
You can’t find this kind of information anywhere else not on the internet or in forums. I highly recommend it.
